The RuhrtalRadweg has a total length of 230 km. It runs alongside the Ruhr, which begins in the near of Winterberg and extends to the Rhine in Duisburg.
The bicycle path opened in 2006. It is mostly barrier-free and marked with statements of place and kilometres as well as with the path logo on the complete route. The RuhrtalRadweg is always near the river. This means that 1/3 of the path is directly located next to the water. Furthermore, 85 % of the route is away from main roads. Young and old can enjoy the beautiful nature to the fullest. The RuhrtalRadweg has been awarded more than once, for example as „Radroute des Jahres 2007 in Nordrhein-Westfalen“ (“Best bicycle route of the year 2007 in NW”).
Because you will come through many smaller and bigger villages you have countless possibilities where to stay for the night. There are also many free time activities and picnic areas. Besides, countless restaurants can be found.
A bicycle service is available at the RuhrtalRadweg. Renting a bike and repairing services in case of possible bike troubles are offered.
